Continuous indexing of hierarchical subdivisions of the globe

چکیده
We describe how to create a continuous global index of the surface of the earth. The model is based on a hierarchical subdivision of the surface into triangular regions, in which each region is assigned a numerical label according to a space lling curve. Sequential labels are assigned to adjacent regions, so labels can be sorted to create a continuous one-dimensional index. Bene ts of this continuous model include the implicit preservation of adjacency information, and the ability to vary resolution at di erent locations. Previously suggested schemes based on similar models produce indices that are discontinuous. We demonstrate our method by showing how to create indices based on two space lling curves. We include procedures for labeling cells, converting between index values and surface coordinates, and nding cell neighbors. We also analyze the number and lengths of jumps in the discontinuous schemes. We discuss characteristics such as adjacency preservation, the ability to create paths and circuits, usability, and stability. We compare the total lengths of curves based on the continuous and discontinuous orderings discussed. We also compare Average Data File Storage Distance, a measure of adjacency preservation. The ordering based on the Sierpinski curve performs best overall, according to both measures.

It is conventional to use multi-dimensional indexing structures to accelerate search operations in content-based image retrieval systems. Many efforts have been done in order to develop multi-dimensional indexing structures so far. In most practical applications of image retrieval, high-dimensional feature vectors are required, but current multi-dimensional indexing structures lose their effici...
متن کاملCredit risk management tools ranking in useless banking Using the AHP technique
Equipping and allocating resources to economic activities is done through the financial market where the bank credit market is part of that market. The high reserves of banks and the refurbished or overdue facilities indicate that the banking system does not use credit risk management tools well and that there is no proper model for managing credit risk in the banking network. The present study...
متن کاملRelational Data Model in Document Hierarchical Indexing
One of the problems of the development of document indexing and retrieval applications is the usage of hierarchies. In this paper we describe a method of automatic hierarchical indexing using the traditional relational data model. The main idea is to assign continuous numbers to the words (grammatical forms of the words) that characterize the nodes in the hierarchy (concept tree). One of the ad...

In our companion study (Jarvis et al. [2013] J Comp Neurol. doi: 10.1002/cne.23404) we used quantitative brain molecular profiling to discover that distinct subdivisions in the avian pallium above and below the ventricle and the associated mesopallium lamina have similar molecular profiles, leading to a hypothesis that they may form as continuous subdivisions around the lateral ventricle. To ex...
متن کاملIndexing a Discrete Global Grid
In an increasingly interconnected world, the development of computer friendly systems for the display and analysis of global data is an important issue. This paper concerns a method for computer representation and manipulation of global data based on multi-resolution subdivisions of regular polyhedra. In particular, the problem of efficiently indexing the cells of such a discrete global grid is...
